Current Restoration Projects and Programs

Grassland Habitat for Landowners
The Lower Shore Land Trust currently has funding available to assist landowners with installing grassland habitat on their properties. This initiative supports the creation of vital ecosystems that benefit native wildlife, improve water quality, and enhance the natural beauty of our region. Funding is limited but accessible to landowners within both the Chesapeake Bay and Coastal Bays watersheds. If you're interested in restoring grasslands and contributing to local conservation efforts, we encourage you to reach out and learn how we can support your project.
At Lower Shore Land Trust, conservation goes beyond protecting land—it’s also about restoring it to support healthy ecosystems. Restoration plays a crucial role in improving habitat for wildlife, enhancing water quality, and building climate resilience. We specialize in grassland habitat restoration, which not only benefits species like the northern bobwhite quail but also supports native pollinators and the broader food web. By reestablishing native plant communities and improving natural landscapes, we help create vibrant, functional habitats that sustain biodiversity. Our restoration efforts work hand-in-hand with land conservation, ensuring the lands we protect are not only preserved but also thriving for generations to come.
Pollinator Garden Certification
The Lower Shore Land Trust (LSLT) strives to promote good health and habitat for a variety of pollinators in urban and suburban regions on the Lower Shore by encouraging the use of native plants. The certification program provides resources for people who wish to implement practices which support pollinator habitat. It’s vital that the lack of pollination is compensated for in order to ensure a thriving ecosystem, and this is where YOU can help! Turn your garden into a pollinator paradise today! Review the certification criteria (Criteria) fill out the Pollinator Friendly Garden interest form (Interest Form) and email to info@lowershorelandtrust.org. Once we receive your interest form we will send additional resource materials for habitat enhancement activities. Fill out the online application or download forms on our website and send (with photos) to LSLT for review. Once approved, you will receive you Pollinator Friendly garden sign and recognition from LSLT.

Restoring Public Places
Lower Shore Land Trust helps restore wildlife habitat in public spaces, creating healthier environments for both nature and people. Through native plantings, pollinator gardens, and wetland restoration, we enhance biodiversity and support essential species like bees, butterflies, and birds. Our projects improve ecological resilience while ensuring that communities can access and enjoy these revitalized landscapes. By transforming public spaces into thriving natural habitats, we provide opportunities for recreation, education, and a deeper connection to the environment.

Yards For Creation
The Lower Shore Land Trust’s Yards for Creation Program invites faith communities to transform a portion of their lawns into vibrant wildflower and pollinator habitats. In partnership with Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake and their One Water Partnership Program, this initiative empowers congregations to take meaningful action for the environment by planting natives that benefit pollinators, improve soil health, and enhance local biodiversity. By reimagining green spaces as thriving habitats, faith communities can play a vital role in protecting creation. Join us in cultivating beauty and purpose right in your own backyard!
