Step 1: Assess and Simplify

ree

  1. Plan where you want to make changes for next spring. Rethink your garden expectations and simplify areas that have been problematic or disappointing.

  2. We encourage native plants and trees no matter the size of your garden. Consider removing a few higher-maintenance ornamental plants or grass patches to make room for the beneficial features of natives.

Step 2: Sift through Research This Winter

Spend the dormant season learning about a few native species that are unfamiliar to you. Beat in the right combination of these key ingredients:

  • Soil type and sun/shade requirements

  • Mature size and bloom expectations

  • Which pollinators benefit (bees, butterflies, moths)

  • Select plants that provide nectar, pollen, or serve as a larval host plant

Step 3: Knead and Build Community

Share the gift of discovering new native species with friends and family. Like a book club, comparing notes on the oddities and successes of individual plants creates valuable connections and a shared knowledge base for your gardening community.

Step 4: Purchase a LSLT Native Plant gift Card

Carry on the joy of gardening; shopping and designing are part of the fun!

Keep your eyes open for our Spring Garden Design Workshops - usually the early weeks of March. Location to be announced soon. HAPPY shopping!
